Finding a teacher
If you would like to study Iyengar Yoga, then you should be able to find a class, an Institute or a Teacher close to you by browsing through the following links. Almost all of these websites have pages of links and/or a 'teacher search' feature. Through those you should be able to locate an Iyengar teacher almost anywhere in the world, including in many countries not directly listed.

The Iyengar Yoga Teaching Certificates

There are five basic teaching certificates: Introductory, Intermediate Junior, Intermediate Senior, Advanced Junior and Advanced Senior. The training for the Introductory is rigorous and can take three to four years to complete. Students are also asked to practice for at least three years before beginning their training. Each of the five kinds of certificates is divided into graded levels. These form a 12-level progressive tier of instruction and practice. The range is from the most basic upwards. The Introducory Certificate is divided into Levels 1 and 2. The Intermediate Junior and Intermediate Senior are divided into three levels each. The Advanced Junior and Advanced Senior are divided into two levels each. As teachers gain in experience and proficiency, they can submit for other assessments in order to be awarded higher and higher levels of certification. These entitle them to take on remedial and therapeutic work, to train other teachers, to be able to assess the suitability of others for teaching and so forth. The Introductory and the Intermediate Junior Certificates make up the first five levels. They are generally assessed by the more senior and experienced teachers working through the National Associatons of the various countries or regions. Although the Intermediate Senior Cretificates can be awarded by senior and experienced teachers within particular countries, the recipients must generally at some time have studied directly with BKS Iyengar or in the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune. The Advanced Certificates are personally awarded by BKS Iyengar and/or at the reccomendation of his Institute.

			This is B.K.S. Iyengar's home site, and the official site for Iyengar yoga. There is a teacher search page which has a drop-down list for all countries. This is probably the best place to begin.
		Iyengar Yoga Resources
			This is an extmerely comprehensive site on Iyengar yoga run by Ivan Herger. It has a range of articles, newsletters, notices of workshops, and a Directory of Iyengar Yoga Centers around the world. It also has a forum where questions can be posed and answered and much else. The site also sells yoga merchandise.
		IyengarYoga.Org
			Another very comprehensive volunteer site on Iyengar yoga. As well as a teacher search section, there is a membership area where members can participate. Occasional grants are given to teachers working with HIV/AIDS, Parkinson's and the like. The site also awards scholarships to those who would like to train to become teachers or travel to India to study at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute. As with the above site, there are articles on the therapeutic benefits of yoga and the like. Merchandise is again available for purchase.
		Iyengarnet
			This site has many links to associations, teachers, events, and general Iyengar yoga information in all corners of the world. It is based in England, so originally much of the information concerned the English yoga scene, but its scope has broadened considerably as people from all over the world have discovered it.
